ita - Il fiume Chao Phraya “spacca” la tanto incredibile quanto meravigliosa e caotica città di Bangkok in due metà, quasi del tutto perfette. “Thausand shades of blue between us” è un progetto prodotto nel 2019 che, attraverso un’intensiva mappatura fotografica, mira alla documentazione analitica della complessa conformazione ed organizzazione della metropoli.
Il fiume prima citato ha funto da vero e proprio filo narrativo naturale, metafora della vita ed al contempo simbolo divino e luogo di infinite interazioni sociali. L’azione di scavalcare ripetutamente il corso d’acqua da una riva all’altra è stato un utile espediente per analizzare e capire la direzione verso la quale la comunità locale stia navigando in quest’era di evoluzione.
Bangkok è una metropoli che attualmente rappresenta uno dei più importanti esempi in Asia orientale di mutazione ed espansione estrema a livello infrastrutturale, urbanistico ed inevitabilmente sociale. Da diversi decenni va sempre di più confermandosi come una grandiosa e potente realtà economica ad un livello tecnologico senza eguali, mostrandosi comunque in grado, nel suo fitto e stratificato tessuto metropolitano, di portare alla luce radici interconnesse tra la sua identità rurale – seppur altamente compressa e circoscritta in aree sempre più ridotte – e il futuro che si è imposta di conquistare in quest’era globale.
In ogni area percorsa ed esaminata è facile cogliere l’esigenza di questa metamorfosi già in atto e non ancora del tutto conclusa. Fenomeno, questo, che sembrerebbe di natura pressoché fisiologica in Asia poiché già visto ed affrontato in passato altrove in diverse realtà. Tra le più eclatanti vi è Singapore, indiscussa potenza finanziaria del sud est, motivo per cui questo particolare processo in gergo viene definito singaporizzazione.
Bangkok è emersa e simboleggia una delle molteplici punte di un iceberg, nonché il disegno dell’attuazione di un’operazione grandiosa, inflazionata e senza alcun limite né fisico né ideologico di crescita e sviluppo. Il sintomo di una trasmutazione che vede l’Asia rimodularsi e rinascere con le sembianze di un nuovo Occidente senza eguali, alimentato da ingenti dosi di steroidi capitalistici, capace di scarnificarsi una volta per tutte da un’identità soggiogata al fabbisogno del forestiero. E scegliendo così di sacrificare il desiderio di conservazione abbracciando e facendo sempre più spazio al progresso.

The river served for me as a real natural narrative thread, a metaphor for life and, at the same time, a divine symbol and a place of endless social interactions. The action of repeatedly stepping over the waterway from one bank to the other was a useful device for analyzing and understanding the direction in which the local community is navigating in this era of evolution.
Bangkok is a metropolis that currently represents one of the most important examples in East Asia of extreme infrastructural, urbanistic and inevitably social mutation and expansion. For several decades now, it has been increasingly confirming itself as a grandiose and powerful economic entity at an unparalleled technological level, while still showing itself capable, in its dense and layered metropolitan tissue, of bringing to light interconnected roots between its rural identity (though highly compressed and confined to ever smaller areas) and the future it has set out to conquer in this global age.
In every area traversed and examined, it is easy to catch the need for this metamorphosis that is already underway and not yet fully completed. A phenomenon, this one, that would seem to be almost physiological in nature in Asia since it has already been seen and addressed elsewhere in the past in various realities. Among the most striking is Singapore, the undisputed financial powerhouse of the Southeast, which is why this particular process in the jargon is called 'singaporization'.
Bangkok has emerged and symbolizes one of the many tips of an iceberg, as well as the pattern of the implementation of a grandiose, but inflated, operation with no physical or ideological limits to growth and development. It is the symptom of a transmutation that sees Asia reshaping itself and being reborn in the guise of a “new West” fueled by massive doses of “capitalist steroids”, capable of stripping itself once and for all from an identity subjugated to the needs of the outsider. And thus choosing to sacrifice the desire for preservation by embracing and making more and more ground for progress.
